Eastern District Court of NY Naturalizations Project

This database contains an index to the naturalization records that were issued between 1865 and 1956 by the Eastern District Courts, which includes the Bronx, Kings, (Brooklyn), Nassau, Queens, Richmond (Staten Island), and Suffolk Counties. It contains over 600,000 records. This index is a work in progress but because of the number of records, we wanted to make these available now.

We have provided a printable form to request Naturalization Records from the  National Archives in NY.

Copies of the naturalization papers can be obtained from the National Archives by using this form. Copies can also be made at the National Archives, 201 Varick Street, New York, NY 10014 and are much cheaper since you only pay for photocopying charges.

Documents can be ordered using a Credit Card at
https://eservices.archives.gov/orderonline/start.swe

Along with members from the other groups that make up the Genealogy Federation of Long Island, the German Genealogy Group has participated in the indexing of Naturalization records and various vital records from the City of New York. An invaluable service has been performed for the genealogical community.

The Genealogy Federation of Long Island consists of the German Genealogy Group, Huntington Historical Society, Italian Genealogical Group, Irish Family History Forum, Jewish Genealogical Society of Long Island, African Atlantic Genealogy Society, Puerto Rican/Hispanic Genealogy Society, Scottish Heritage & Ancestral Research Society and the Computer Genealogy Society of Long Island. We also want to acknowledge the efforts of many individuals throughout the country who also participated in these projects.

This project of The Genealogy Federation of Long Island was coordinated by Mr. John Martino. If you would like to contribute time to other current projects, please contact Mr. Martino.

This database has importance not only to New Yorkers but also to many from all over the United States, particularly for soldiers who were processed for discharge at the end of World War I in November 1918. These men were very often not from the New York area. It is suggested that if you can't find a relative who became a citizen during the World War I period, no matter where they lived originally, check the Camp Upton naturalization records.
